Plant Assessments & Operations Analysis
GDC has developed
a proven methodology for assessing manufacturing and/or service operations.
These facility assessments can be done as stand-alone studies or part of an
overall improvement initiative. Our Operational analysis can also be used to support due diligence
associated with an acquisition or justification for
benchmarking before starting your lean journey. We will evaluate the effectiveness of
your corporate
strategy and the efficiency of your processes.
GDC will also assess your current performance against world-class business standards. Because
we understand that our clients' needs are different we offer 3 types of
assessments:
-
One Day Assessment
-
Two and a Half Day Assessment
-
Operational Analysis
One Day No-Cost Assessment *
GDC will send your company a packet (via
e-mail) to provide us with information pertaining to your business situation
in regard to quality, inventory, manufacturing, costing, and professional
skills training. This information will assist us in identifying what we need to
look for in the short period of time we are there. Upon receipt of this
information, we will set up a site visit.
During our site visit we will complete a
plant tour (Approximately 5 hrs) where we will identify areas of concern based on
our observation and information provided by the organization. Upon completion
we will put together a PowerPoint presentation outlining strengths,
weaknesses, and opportunities based on our assessment. We will conclude the
visit by sitting down with the management team or steering committee
(approximately 1 hr) to review our calculations and findings, and identify
areas of opportunity and a starting point.
Benefit: This assessment is ideal for
companies who want to identify the “low hanging fruit” ―easily identifiable
problems that can bring a few quick successes to the company.
*
Travel cost is charged if outside a 75-mile radius.

Two and a Half Day Assessment
In addition to the information required for our 1day assessment, GDC will
need other company financials to place into our opportunity matrix. This will
enable us to identify specific areas in need of improvement, as well as, the
percentage of opportunity for these areas, the savings associated with them,
and a cost and payback period.
During our site visit we will interview key members of your organization to
gain better insight into the company’s goals and objectives, and identify
whether the message is clear across the company. Agenda:
- Day 1 – Verify information received, interview top management, start
facility tour
- Day 2 – Complete facility tour, interview additional staff members
- Day 3 (half day) – Complete interviewing process (if needed), report
findings to management team.
Benefit: This assessment is ideal for companies wanting to embark on the
road to lean conversion. We will identify where to start or whether you are ready to start this process.

Operational Analysis
GDC’s Operational Analysis uses a closed-loop approach. Our method is to
assist the management team in developing a service or manufacturing strategy
that is well-aligned with your overall business goals. These strategies will
be based on the philosophies of Lean Conversion and the Business Operating
System. We will interview personnel within all areas of your organization.
Upon completion, we will evaluate and put together a plan that will take into
account the cultural aspects for a successful transformation. The report you
receive will be rather extensive and detailed in nature, and presented to the
management staff approx. 2 to 3 weeks after completion of the on-site visit.
Benefit: This assessment is for organizations wanting a holistic approach
to lean conversion. If your company has downsized, acquisitioned,
restructured, or wants to improve processes, this analysis will help identify
your organizational readiness for continuous improvement. We will help your
organization identify both the professional skills (soft skills) and technical
skills (hard skills) needed to move your organization forward.
